12th Symposium Light and Health

(in German)

In April 2024, the 12th "Light and Health" symposium was held, organized by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin. The conference topics traditionally covered the effects of light, including optical radiation in the visible spectral range and the effects of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation on the human organism and their applications. The positive effects of optical radiation on human health as well as possible risks were discussed.

The contributions in this conference proceedings address various aspects of the non-visual effects of light, new findings on protection against hazards from optical radiation, opportunities and risks of modern artificial light sources and the risk of blue light. The effects of solar UV radiation and therapeutic applications of optical radiation are also covered.

The aim of the event was to take a practical look at scientific topics and promote interdisciplinary dialog between scientists from different disciplines. These include, for example, photo- and chronobiology, (occupational) medicine, ophthalmology, biophysics, photodermatology, psychology and ergonomics. Lighting manufacturers, lighting designers, users and occupational health and safety stakeholders were also invited to take part in this dialog.
