50 years of the Committee on Hazardous Substances - a success story

(in German)

This year, the Committee on Hazardous Substances (AGS) celebrated its 50th anniversary. It was founded in 1972 and since then has advised the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on all issues relating to the protection of employees from hazardous substances in the workplace. The most important results of the consultations are prepared for professionals in occupational safety and health in technical rules for hazardous substances. The spectrum ranges from risk assessment and protective measures to fire and explosion protection and limit values. In its role as a pluralistic body, the AGS has repeatedly provided important impact for the improvement of working conditions throughout its history. Starting with regulations on benzene and asbestos or the risk concept for carcinogenic substances, European topics are also in demand for the AGS's expertise today.
