Um Holzwerkstoffe gegen Fäulnis zu schützen, werden normalerweise Biozide wie Kupfer, Chrom und Arsen durch Vakuum-Druck-Imprägnierung aufgebracht. Formaldehyde free preservative for starch adhesives

Formaldehyde is a common preservative but is IARC carcinogen and CLP skin sensitiser. An alternative product made of sodium chloride and compounds extracted from berries is available as bactericide for starch adhesives.

Facade cleaning using dry ice blasting for monument restoration in Prague

Facade cleaning may be performed with chemicals or by using blasting with various media. Chemical cleaning is often done with hazardous substances like dichloromethane or methyl pyrrolidone. Sandblasting is hazardous due to the crystalline silica, a carcinogen. Using dry ice blasting may be a safer alternative. An example of its use in restoring ancient Prague monuments is presented.

Alternatives for cleaners for industrial surfaces

Alternative special cleaner can be identified by applying GISBAU (German hazardous substances information system for the construction sector). A strong alkaline cleaner (pH 13) can be replaced by an alternative with pH 9,5.

Alternative polyurethane coatings can be identified by applying GISBAU (German hazardous substances information system for the construction sector). This example covers the replacement of product containing two carcinogens, sensitizer and reprotoxic, by safer and more environmental-friendly alternative.
