You can refine your search after first entry for sector-, function- and process-categories. The case studies are meant to serve as source of inspiration and ideas for substitution. The alternatives are constantly being developed further. We therefore recommend that you to check in each individual case whether an alternative is suitable for your applications and purposes. Beim Bedrucken von Tüten wurde für die Reinigung der Druckwalzen ein Lösungsmittel verwendet, das Isopropanol, 2-Methylpropan-1-ol und Heptan enthielt. Die Substitution von lösemittelhaltigen Farben durch wasserbasierte Farben löste das Problem: Für die Reinigung der Druckwalzen war das genannte Lösungsmittel nicht mehr notwendig. (Das Lösungsmittel wird jetzt üblicherweise durch Wasser und Ammoniak substituiert).

Substitution of isopropanol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol and heptane in the cleaning of printing rolls

A solvent containing isopropanol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol and heptane was used in the cleaning of printing rolls used for bag printing. The previous substitution of organic inks by water based inks solved the problem since solvents were no longer necessary for the cleaning of rolls (the solvent is usually substituted by water and ammonia).

Alternatives to phthalates in toys and childcare articles.

In this study a number of alternative plasticisers to the phthalates DEHP (Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate), DBP (Di-n-butyl phthalate) and BBP (Butyl benzyl phthalate) are described and assessed. Suitable alternative plasticisers have been identified for most applications of the phthalates, and ten of these have been assessed in detail.

Fire resistant composition in particular for energy or telecommunication cables.

The substitution originates from a patent registration filed in 2006 concerning the substitution of different halogenated polymers used as flame retardants with non-halogen thermoplastics with cork as a fire retardant filler. By mixing in cork in the composition the heat release rate for the polymers decreased significantly, resulting in a more flame resistant material.

Arnitel® XG, hergestellt von DSM, ist ein technischer Kunststoff, frei von Halogenen, bromierten Flammhemmern, PVC und Weichmachern. Die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten des Kunststoffes liegen in erster Linie bei Leitungen und Kabeln für elektronische Verbraucherartikel. Obwohl der Kunststoff frei von bromierten Flammhemmern ist, besitzt es doch gute flammhemmende Eigenschaften, sowie Chemikalien- und Temperaturbeständigkeit. Diese Eigenschaften machen Arnitel XG zu einer möglichen Alternative zu PVC in Leitungen und Kabeln.

Substitution of PVC and phthalate plasticizer carpet backing by a mixture of materials (EcoWorx) the primary component of which is a food grade low density polyethylene (LDPE).

Carpet comprises two main elements, nylon face pile and backing. Backing systems represent a significant investment in materials, engineering and performance.Shaw’s goals were to re-engineer the carpet following “Cradle to Cradle” design principles to eliminate hazardous chemicalsand to facilitate recycling of the face pile and backing at the end of its life.The use of industry standard PVC backings was incompatible with these goals. The polyolefin replacement backing meets all PVC product and price performance criteria while allowing the product to be fully recycled.
