About the portal
The SUBSPORTplus Portal is the result of the SUBSPORT project and aims to be a reliable source of information regarding safe alternatives for hazardous substances. Here you have access to recent information regarding alternatives and technologies, as well as to instruments and guidance for the assessment of substances for substitution management.
Assistance with substitution
The information of SUBSPORTplus can support companies in complying with EU legal requirements regarding substitution, i.a. in authorisation procedures under REACH, in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) or in the Chemical Agents directives (CAD). In addition, the information on substances and assessment procedures can also be used in Research, Development and Innovation by companies and other institutes.
Moreover, further actors like government authorities, environment and consumer associations as well as trade unions or scientific institutions may benefit from the Portal.
Initiatives regarding Substitution
SUBSPORTplus supports recent substitution activities and related activities in the EU, as well as on an international level (e.g. ECHA, OECD). In addition, the dissemination of the Portal will also contribute to sensibilisation for the topic substitution and to the dissemination of safe alternatives.
Contents of the SUBSPORTplus Portal
The web portal SUBSPORTplus offers following information in German and English:
- a structured presentation of Legal Regulations regarding substitution in the EU, as well as on national and international level.
- a Database with Hazardous Substances (list of list), whose use is restricted by legal or voluntary obligations, or of which restriction is being legally implemented.
- an overview of current Criteria for Identification of Hazardous Substances
- a description of Substitution Tools, allowing comparison and assessment of alternative substances and technologies.
- a Database with Case Stories and general information regarding alternatives and the use of hazardous substances.
- detailed and sound analysis Case Studies of nine selected substances of very high concern in various important applications, documenting practical experience with the substitution cases.
- Assistance and information about the safe use of substances, which are currently not replaceable Good Practice
- Current news and events on substitution as well as developments, e.g. on safe-and-sustainable-by-design, are offered under News and integrated into SUBSPORTplus.
The Portal is maintained and updated by the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAUA).
