Eliminierung von Trichlorethylen in Laboratorien zur Kontrolle von Asphaltqualität

Trichlorethylen wird zur Qualitätskontrolle in Laboratorien verwendet, um den Gehalt von Bitumen in Asphaltgemischen zu bestimmen. Bitumen ist ein gefährlicher Stoff, dessen Eliminierung oder Substitution im Hinblick auf Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsaspekte eine hohe Priorität zukommt. Die Eliminierung von Trichlorethylen aus dem Prozess wird mit Hilfe eines kleinen Muffelofen erreicht, der die Asphaltgemische bei der Verdunstungstemperatur von Bitumen verbrennt. Diese Prozedur ermöglicht die Berechnung des prozentualen Bitumengehalts eines Gemisches anhand des Gewichtunterschieds.

Elimination of trichloroethylene in asphalt quality control laboratories

Trichloroethylene is used in quality control laboratories to determine the amount of bitumen in asphalt mixtures. Bitumen is a hazardous substance whose elimination or substitution by a less dangerous chemical is a health and safety priority. The elimination of trichloroethylene from the process is carried out through a small muffle furnace that burns the asphalt mix at the temperature of evaporation for bitumen. This procedure facilitates the calculation of bitumen percentage in the mix based on the weight difference.

Assessment, development and demonstration of alternatives for parachlorobenzotrifluoride

This document describes the emerging solvent parachlorobenzotrifluoride, a solvent increasingly used as an alternative to other solvents phasing restrictions. The document describes the different uses of the solvent and identifies available alternatives. Investigated uses include automotive body cleaning and cosmetic stain removal. Acetone and soy-based solvents are among the mentioned safer alternatives. Function and costs of the different alternatives are also evaluated.

Assessment, development and demonstration of alternatives for decamethylcyclopentasiloxane

This document describes the substance decamethylcyclopentasiloxane or D5, a substance used increasingly as a substitute to different halogenated solvents. The compound has latterly shown undesirable properties. This study has investigated the availability of alternatives to the compound for the uses dry cleaning, maintenance cleaning and as an ingredient in cosmetic products. For the first two uses some alternatives using new technologies, including liquid carbon dioxide and ultrasonic cleaning were mentioned as safer alternatives. The document focuses on function and cost aspects of the alternatives.

Assessment, development and demonstration of alternatives for n-methyl pyrrolidone

This is a report from a project investigating the alternatives to n-methyl pyrrolidone. The investigated uses for the substance are stripping of paint and furniture, precision cleaning, pharmaceutical penetration enhancer and in personal care products. For stripping and precision cleaning a more thorough alternatives assessment including function and cost was performed, while for the pharmaceutical and personal care applications it was only stated that corresponding products exists without having to use this substance. For stripping the suggested alternatives were based on benzyl alcohol and/or acetone, while for precision cleaning organizational changes were suggested.

Assessment, development and demonstration of alternatives for n-propyl bromide

This document describes possible alternatives to n-propyl bromide in different types of aerosol cleaning, industrial precision cleaning and as an adhesive for polyurethane in furniture. The alternative includes both alternative cleaners, such as water based systems, and alternative adhesives including acetone and latex, as well as alternative cleaning technologies including laser, deionised water and carbon dioxide pellet blasting. The document focuses on function and cost aspects of the alternatives.
