Description of Substitution

Many solvent users are seeking alternative methods for parts cleaning and surface preparation. Though many solvent users seek a “safer solvent” that will perform identically in their current cleaning system, there are many non-solvent alternatives to be considered, including water-based and abrasive/mechanical cleaning. This 6-page factsheet, published by the Department of Ecology of Washington State, presents an eight-step process that can be used in evaluating parts cleaning alternatives. It will help to select solvent substitutes that meet your needs and priorities while minimising unforeseen problems and cost over-runs.

Case/substitution evaluation

This case study contains the substitution of solvents and the non-solvent alternatives. It is a guideline for various substitution cases and therefore no uniform assessment can be made here. Read the stored documents for more information.
