Description of Substitution

The document offers a critical review of the scientific, technical and governmental literature on solvent substitution and an inventory of solvent use and occupational exposure in Québec, Canada. Substitution requirements are identified and prioritised. Alternatives for the use of solvents in high-priority economic sectors and industrial processes are studied in greater detail, including metal degreasing in electronics, aerospace and printing sectors, paint and adhesive production and dry-cleaning. An accessible document that facilitates decision-making was produced and made available to health and safety specialists.
