EU Biocidal Products Regulation: non-approved substances

The European Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012 on biocidal products aims at the functioning of the internal market by harmonising the rules for making biocidal products available on the market. It also focuses on the use of biocidal products while ensuring a high level of protection, in accordance with the precautionary principle, for human health, animal health and the environment.

The regulation regulates the authorisation of biocidal products according to a two-step procedure. In a first step, a "new" biocidal active substance must be approved. Only then could this be authorised in a second step in a "new" product as a "new" biocidal product.

The ":helpdesk reach-clp-biozid" provides a list of non-approved biocidal active substances for certain product types according to the regulation (EU) No. 528/2012.
