On 8 December 2022, the European Commission adopted a "Recommendation establishing a European assessment framework for ‘safe and sustainable by design’ (SSbD) chemicals and materials" to promote research and innovation for safer and more sustainable chemicals and materials. The proposed framework is an essential step towards a more harmonized assessment of the safety and sustainability of chemicals and materials.
During the 3rd stakeholder workshop held on 9 - 10 February 2023 in Brussels, Belgium, the Joint Research Centre presented the progress done on the selected case studies: plasticisers, surfactants and flame retardants.
