The alternatives are constantly being developed further. We therefore recommend that you to check in each individual case whether an alternative is suitable for your applications and purposes. Most large producers of concrete admixtures offer a variety of products. The decision is taken by the customer and its special demands. The institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention in the construction industry (BG BAU) in Germany offers advice on how to choose the safest products from a chemical hazard point of view, and still maintaining a good function.

Alternatives for bitumen products for building sealing

Alternative cold processed bituminous products for construction sealing can be identified by applying GISBAU (German hazardous substances information system for the construction sector). In this example distillates (petroleum) hydrotreated light and bitumen can be replaced by safer alternative.

Substitution of lead in roof flashing

This case story describes a product developed for roof flashing to substitute lead. The product consists of a composite of aluminium lattice cast into rubber/plastic of the type MS polymer. The product is developed by a Danish company. The main motivation for development of the product was that since 2002 the use of lead for roofing materials has been banned in Denmark.
