Unit 3.3 Designing Service Work

Unit 3.3 conducts research into methodologies and impact factors for the design of human-centred service work.

What factors determine whether work design measures will be successful? How do processes of this kind take place in nursing and care facilities, the retail sector, or the security industry? To what extent do digital technologies influence work design in these and other kinds of service work, and what connections are there between the deployment of these technologies and employees' health?

Unit 3.3 focusses on service work. This includes all tasks that involve direct interaction with people - such as caring, teaching, serving, advising, supervising, and controlling. The unit's goal is to evaluate the academic findings reached in research and development (R&D) work and make it possible for them to be utilised by the specialist audience, in the provision of policy advice, and in the transfer of good practice to workplaces.

Apart from its R&D activities, the unit therefore organises an extensive range of events at BAuA's Dresden office. These events are aimed at various groups, including occupational safety and health (OSH) multipliers such as employers, OSH practitioners, and representatives of Germany’s social accident insurance providers and OSH authorities.

The unit is currently working on the following priority topics:

  • work organisation in the health sector
  • workplace implementation processes
  • people-oriented tasks in times of digital change
