Collection of toxicokinetic data for the assessment of different exposure routes using the example of the antibiotic enrofloxacin

  • Projektnummer : F 2430

  • Status : Abgeschlossenes Projekt

Projektbeschreibung :

Biomonitoring is an approved procedure to assess the systemic exposure of workers against hazardous substances. However, workplace measurements or estimation of a substance or its metabolites in blood or urine do not allow reliable conclusions on the route of exposure via inhalation, skin contact or ingestion. Knowledge on specific kinetics of elimination after inhalation, uptake via the skin and oral uptake allow assessing the proportion of the routes of exposure from airmonitoring and biomonitoring data. The objective of the study is to obtain toxicokinetic data of the elimination of enrofloxacin after oral, inhalative and dermal administration in subtherapeutic doses to 6 adult male volunteers. The time interval between the different administrations must be long enough for the complete elimination of enrofloxacin. During the elimination enrofloxacin and its mean metabolite ciprofloxacin will be analyzed in blood (plasma) and urine in regular intervals. The results will be used for a differentiated interpretation of measurement results from current studies on workers exposure to antibiotics in animal farming (F 2344, F 2404).
