Antibiotic-resistant bacteria in emissions from the industrial livestock farming

  • Projektnummer: F 2331
  • Projektdurchführung: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Abgeschlossenes Projekt

Projektbeschreibung:

The disproportionate or inconsistent use of antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine, but also the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in animal breeding resulted in formation of antibiotic resistance bacteria. The focus of this project is the determination of antibiotic resistant bacteria in emission samples from chicken broiler houses. For this purpose, bacteria should be sampled by a LANUV-developed sampling system for the detection of bioaerosols in exhaust air. In emission samples from 10 different broiler houses airborne bacteria should be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Antibiotic resistant bacteria will be isolated and characterized using molecular and biochemical methods. The aim is to learn on the emission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from poultry houses and the exposure of employees at working activities in exhaust stacks due to biological agents.
