The Tier 1 models (ECETOC TRA, Stoffenmanager, EMKG-Expo-Tool) recommended in European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) guidance document R14 for occupational exposure assessment towards hazardous substances in the context of REACH are validated only to a limited extent regarding their scientific performance. A small scale comparison of measured data with the predicted exposure levels (done by the model owners) is available for Stoffenmanager and EMKG-Expo-Tool. In this project, principles for the validation of the exposure models that are listed in R14 will be analysed and further developed in cooperation with international partners. By means of a conceptual analysis of the respective scientific assumptions, a comparison of the calculated output of the models with measurement data on a large scale, and an operational analysis (regarding operating comfort, errors etc.) the suitability of the models for different exposure scenarios will be investigated.
